A New Era Begins
For the past decade, Sheep Meadow Dance Theatre has brought original dance performances to hundreds of venues, including theaters, art galleries, parks, plazas, and festivals. Along the way, the company has embraced innovative production techniques and digital media, pioneering its acclaimed "Living Dance Film" model during the pandemic. The company has earned grant support from state and local agencies as well as recognition from both audiences and peers.
Collaboration is at the heart of SMDT's creative process. The company has partnered with painters, designers, musicians, composers, and visual artists to push the boundaries between classical ballet and experimental performance. This January's performance of 'KINANCER' exemplified that passion.
Rooted in community engagement, SMDT creates work that explores social issues through compelling storytelling while making high-quality dance accessible to all. A significant portion of the company's programming is offered free of charge, particularly in Queens, ensuring that professional dance remains welcoming and available to diverse audiences.
Going forward, we have a new focus, a new vision, and a new name.
We're excited to share that Queens Ballet Collective is officially a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization.
Being a 501(c) (3) means we are recognized as a charitable organization in New York State dedicated to serving our community through the arts. It also means that donations are tax-deductible, allowing supporters to give back while investing in the future of dance..

This milestone opens the door for us to expand performance opportunities, support our dancers, and provide more robust arts access to our community.
